Drugs, Math, and Hip-Hip Music

August 26, 2010

Minus the drugs + the boring (a subject that is either loved or hated) and the product of monotone & crappy one-liners = Drug Free Geometry.

A few days ago, another option for your viewing pleasure popped up in the Top-ah-the-Website-to-ya menu. This little number is called Drug Free Geometry. It’s essentially a bunch of Geometry lessons condensed on videos for educational purposes. I mean, I’m no Matthew Perry, but at least it’s some extra help for some kiddos who’re falling away from math (Korn remix to ignition?).

I honor of that, and in remembrance of Geometry and the fact that I no longer teach the subject and have henceforth moved on to primarily Honors Algebra II (holla! Wait, holla? Really. C’mon now.) Let’s test your might.

So, like Beyoncé said, throw your hands up back in the club and take this real quick Geometry 5 question overview test, each one is worth 20%, partial credit if you show your work.

1. If -5 (1 – 5x) + 5 (-8 – 2) = -4x -8x, solve for 2x

2. John John is jogging at a constant speed. He jogs 2 miles in 14 minutes. After 35 minutes, he’s jogged 5 miles. Write the equation of the line representing his run in slope-intercept form.

3. Where the ice and wood planks fell in Angry Birds, it created an angle PQR, ray QT bisects angle PQR. if RQT = (10x – 13) and PQT = (6x + 1) find the measure of angle PQR. Now.

4. A dude is standing on his tippy toes at 6 feet tall. His shadow measures 14 feet. Right next to him walks up this big giant that’s like “I’m gonna eat you for my dinny din din if you don’t tell me how tall I am, ho ho ho.” The dude notices the giant’s shadow is 84 feet. Also, the giant’s name is Kent a he loves the smell of fresh cut grass.

5. OchoCinco and Terrell Owens fight to the death with swords and lazers in a regular convex octagon. What is the measure of each angle in the fighting arena?

Bonus: Who would win and why?

If that didn’t make you wanna go back to high school and get made fun of, I don’t know what will. Money. I would go back if they paid me.

The answers are located at the bottom of the page for Drug Free Geometry, and you can leave your scores in the comments if you liked the show Rugrats, or even if you don’t, but please don’t curse.

Sorry this was late, I had duty once again, but you look wonderful tonight.

62% on my best estimate, 22 of those points for showing work.
